Vancouver will not face a capacity field for Saturday’s Group 3 $125,000 San Domenico Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Vancouver has only nine rivals and four of those have been entered in other races.
King’s Troop, Headwater and Haptic are also nominated for the Vain Stakes at Caulfield, and Beau Tirage is also among entries for Canberra on Friday.
Arrowfield Stud boss John Messara races King’s Troop and said he is keen for the promising colt to start at Rosehill.
“Our trainer Gerald Ryan put him in both races to see how they pan out but it is an advantage for King’s Troop to stay in Sydney and race on his home track,” Messara said.
“Certainly, my preference is to go to the San Domenico Stakes. Obviously, the Golden Slipper winner will start favourite but it is no shame if we ran second to him.
“We do know King’s Troop is very fit but we also feel he will better next time in so this is probably going to be his grand final this preparation.”
King’s Troop was a brilliant Warwick Farm midweek winner last start and Ryan isn’t shying away from a showdown with Vancouver, either.
“He has come through the Warwick Farm win terrific, he ran fast time and the form around him is really stacking up,” Ryan added.
Godolphin trainer John O’Shea said on Monday that Haptic is almost certain to take his place in the San Domenico field with the stable entering Demonstrate and Bantam for the Vain Stakes.
Team Hawkes is also leaning to a Rosehill start for Headwater with Blake Shinn booked for the ride.
Meanwhile, Kawi is 4.50 to land the Makfi Challenge Stakes later this month with Ryan Mark 6.00 and Puccini currently a 11.00 chance.
