Timeform pick out their best back, lay and smart stat bets for Sunday’s Jumps action…

“…in a race which doesn’t look the strongest for the grade, it looks worth siding with Harbour Force to complete a double.”

Timeform on Harbour Force

Back
Viens Chercher – 15:35 Kelso

With several of this six runner field having something to prove here, ready preference is for Viens Chercher, who’s enjoyed a revival of late. Indeed, he backed up a commanding win at Stratford in March with a fine effort to finish third in a stronger race at Uttoxeter last time, doing well to keep going as he did having been prominent from an early stage. Arriving here off the same mark as last time, he appeals as one to keep on the right side for a while yet, and is a confident pick to resume winning ways for Peter Bowen – who is beginning to pick up after a quiet start to the calendar year.

Lay
Valentino Dancer – 14:00 Kelso

A fairly useful performer in 10 starts on the Flat, Valentino Dancer made the perfect start to his hurdling career when making a winning debut at Newton Abbot earlier this month, winning by 32 lengths. Admittedly, his win was a facile one, but it’s worth noting that he was left clear after the fall of Grey Diamond that day, and still had two lengths to make up at the time. He may well have closed down the gap had that rival stayed on his feet, but that was undoubtedly a good opportunity, and in Some Day Soon he’s meeting a far more experienced rival who’s just coming into his own in this sphere, having opened his account at Fontwell last time. Valentino Dancer is likely to be a very short price for this, meaning there could be some value in opposing him with Some Day Soon, whose yard is in fine form.

Smart Stat
Harbour Force – 17:25 Fontwell
21% – Neil Mulholland’s strike rate at FONTWELL PARK since the start of the 2015/16 season

Having failed to show any meaningful form for quite some time, Harbour Force suddenly returned to form when opening his account at Wincanton earlier this month, seemingly being suited by the emphasis on speed over a longer trip. Over the same distance as last time, Harbour Force arrives here just 3 lb higher than for that success, and the presence of several front-running types means that this race should in theory be run to suit him. Neil Mulholland has a good record at Fontwell over the past few years, with a 21% strike-rate, and in a race which doesn’t look the strongest for the grade, it looks worth siding with Harbour Force to complete a double.
