Timeform pick out three bets at Navan on Wednesday…
“…he won’t have to improve much on that debut form to come out on top here…”
Timeform on Flaming Moon
Flaming Moon – 13:30 Navan
This doesn’t look the stongest race of its type, and Flaming Moon should prove a tough nut to crack if going the right way from his promising debut at Fairyhouse last month. He was a cheap purchase given his pedigree, and showed plenty to work on, going with enthusiasm disputing the lead and keeping on once headed two furlongs out. That run came on heavy ground, so he shouldn’t be troubled by conditions today, and he won’t have to improve much on that debut form to come out on top here.
Pillar – 15:05 Navan
This doesn’t look as competitive as the numbers suggest, and Pillar remains with handicapping scope based on old form. He turned in his best effort of the season to belatedly take advantage of a falling mark at Fairyhouse last time, knuckling down well in the closing stages and ultimately winning with a bit in hand. The handicapper has raised him 6 lb for that success, but he has won off higher marks in the past, and is clearly suited by testing conditions, so has more in his favour than most here.
Arthur’s Kingdom – 16:10 Navan
Arthur’s Kingdom is a typically well-bred sort from Ballydoly – closely related to the very smart Joshua Tree – and he looks a promising sort. He has filled the runner-up spot in both of his starts, the latest when turned over at prohibitive odds (9/2-on), but he pulled clear of a subsequent winner on that occasion, and is well worth another chance given connections. Arthur’s Kingdom won’t have to improve much on what he has already shown and rates a banker for a race of this nature.
