Glynn Schofield hopes to guide Weary to success at Randwick on Saturday.

Champion jockey Glyn Schofield says he would not swap Weary for any other ride in the Group 2 $175,000 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

Weary is a proven weight-for-age sprinter and goes into Saturday’s race after a pleasing barrier trial effort, so it is very easy to understand why Schofield is so optimistic.

Weary convinced Schofield he was at his best when he cruised home to run fifth behind I Can Rock in a Warwick Farm trial late last month and he looks in perfect shape heading into Saturday’s race.

He certainly trialled well enough to convince me he is ready for a forward showing.

Weary is trained by Chris Waller, and the Missile Stakes is one of the few Sydney feature races that the champion trainer has not previously win.

However Weary gives the trainer an excellent opportunity to claim his first win in the Group 2 sprint.

Weary won the Group 2 Expressway Stakes when resuming over the Randwick 1200m back in January but his form tapered off during the Sydney autumn carnival.

But Schofield linked with Weary toward the end of that campaign, partnering the gelding in the Group 1 Doomben Cup when second to the rampant Pornichet back in May.

“Pornichet was extremely dominant that day but Weary ran a very good race,” Schofield said. “He has had an extended break since and his trial showed me he is coming up well for the spring.

“His trial was pretty sharp. He certainly trialled well enough to convince me he is ready for a forward showing.”

Weary is 5.00 to win the Missile Stakes with Temple Of Boom at 4.80 for trainer Tony Gollan and Aomen 34.00 for Anthony Cummings’ yard.
