Connections of Amorino are aiming at Flemington for the Carnival.
Amorino is primed for an assault on the Melbourne spring carnival after an outstanding finish to his first campaign for Ballarat trainer Archie Alexander.
Raced by the Galante family, the six-year-old landed three stakes wins from his last four starts in the autumn, including the Group 3 TAB Rewards Stakes (1400m) at Flemington in March.
Amorino will now be given a shot at Group 1 glory when he resumes in the Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 29th August.
Elio Galante said Amorino would have a trial within the next week, before a decision is made on what path to take.
I really want to give him an opportunity to win a Group 1.
“All going well and if he trials well, he’ll go to the Memsie,” Galante said. “He loves the 1400m and loves Caulfield.
“I really want to give him an opportunity to win a Group 1 and that will tell us where we head for the rest of his preparation.
“Archie’s happy with him and we’re expecting another good preparation from him.”
Galante said the $1million Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington in November was Amorino’s main aim.
But a return to WA for another crack at the Railway was unlikely.
“With a rating of 106, if he won another one over there he would get too much weight in the Railway,” Galante added.
“We haven’t completely closed the door, but I think he’ll end up staying in Melbourne.”
Meanwhile, Kawi is 6.00 to win the Windsor Park Plate on 15th September while Vespa is 7.50 and Cauthen is a 21.00 chance.
