There has been a strong move for the Bart Cummings trained Do You think to win the Golden Slipper with the first and only emergency shortening from $51 to $26 with Sportingbet Australia.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said punters were confident he could be a genuine player if he gets a run in the Slipper.

“We have seen a number of good bets come in for him with one punter backing him to win $30,000 leading the charge on Wednesday afternoon,” Sullivan said.

“His win at Canterbury was very impressive and it looks like 1200m will suit him perfectly.

“His win was on a dead track and he won a trial in slow going so the possibility of rain shouldn’t be a major problem either.”

Sullivan said punters were looking for value at the moment and were betting around the favoured runners.

“We have hardly taken a decent bet on Sepoy or Smart Missile this week but we have laid a number of horses at big odds,” he said.

“Apart from Do You Think, the has been good money for Karuta Queen at $17, Salade at $15 and bolters Mosheen and Masthead.”

GOLDEN SLIPPER FACTS

Betfair’s Sarah Peatling dishes up all the facts on the Golden Slipper

FACT: Only four Blue Diamond winners have won the Golden Slipper in the same year: Courtza (1989), Bounding Away (1986), Manikato (1978) and John’s Hope (1972).

2010 Blue Diamond winner Sepoy will be out to achieve the unique feat.
FACT: Clarry Conners shares the modern-day record for training the most Golden Slipper winners, four, with Bart Cummings and Lee Freedman.

This year Conners is represented by filly Satin Shoes (H Bowman) and Cummings saddles up last start winner Salade (L Nolen), Empress Rock (M Rodd) and emergency Do You Think (S Arnold).
FACT: Barrier one is the most successful, providing five Golden Slipper winners in the last 20 years. Barriers five and 11 follow suit with each having produced three winners.

This year, outsider Mosheen jumps from barrier one, while Smart Missile and Foxwedge start from barriers five and eleven respectively.
FACT: Number eight has been the luckiest Golden Slipper saddle-cloth in the last 10 years, having won four times.

The Clarry Conners-trained Satin Shoes carries the lucky number eight in this year’s event.
FACT: The key form race for the Group 1 weight-for-age BMW (2400m) is the Ranvet Stakes (2000m). Ten BMW winners have come through the Ranvet in the last 20 years, with eight finishing in the top three and two in seventh position before saluting in the BMW.

This year’s top three Ranvet placegetters (in order) are Zavite, Descarado and Hawk Island.
FACT: The key form race for the Group 1 Queen of the Turf (1500m) is the Coolmore Classic. Twelve Queen of the Turf winners have come through it in the last 20 years.

Aloha won this year’s Coolmore Classic but runs in the George Ryder Stakes instead, however Jersey Lily and Melito ran second and third respectively in that contest.
FACT: Seven of the last 10 starting price favourites have won the Queen of the Turf.
FACT: Only two horses in this year’s Queen of the Turf have won at Group 1 level: More Joyous (four Group 1 wins ) and Melito (two Group 1 wins).
FACT: Multiple Group 1 winner Danleigh (H Bowman) won the George Ryder Stakes (1500m) last year.

This year, the in-form Chris Waller-trained gelding aims to make it back to back victories. The last horse to do this was Lonhro in 2003-2004.
FACT: Since the George Ryder was run at WFA level in 1978, 18 x 4YO+GH, 1 x 4YO+M, 10 x 3YO C&G and 3 x 3YO F have won the race.

Victorian-trained Aloha is the only mare and Ilovethiscity and Skilled are the only 3YO’s in this year’s line up.

FACT:
John Hawkes is the most successful modern-day trainer with three wins in the George Ryder (from 2002-2004).

This year the Hawkes team are represented by Dao Dao and Love Conquers All.
