FACT: Twenty-five colts/geldings have won the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) compared to 15 fillies.
FACT: In the last 30 years, fifty per cent of Blue Diamond winners have won the Blue Diamond Prelude en-route.

This year’s Blue Diamond Prelude winner is Sepoy with a win by 3.5 lengths.
FACT: The last horse to win both the Blue Diamond Preview and Blue Diamond Prelude before saluting in the Blue Diamond was champion sprinter Bel Esprit in 2002.

The Peter Snowden-trained Sepoy aims to emulate that feat, having won both lead up races by a combined total of seven lengths.
FACT: Jockey Dwayne Dunn is the most successful modern day jockey in the Blue Diamond, having ridden four Blue Diamond winners from 2004 to 2008.

This year he pilots the Lee Freedman-trained Masthead.
FACT: Only six horses in the past 30 years have carried 55kg+ to victory in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m): Undue (2007), Fastnet Rock (2005), Sudurka (2002), Sports (2000), Singing the Blues (1998) and Mr Illusion (1985).
FACT: The last horse to win the Oakleigh Plate carrying 58kg+ was Dual Choice in 1972 lumping 59.5kg.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained last start-winner Catapulted carries 58kg in this year’s edition.
FACT: Three mares have won the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) in the last 20 years, with Typhoon Tracy the last to win in 2010.

Eleven time-winner More Joyous, Ortensia and Avienus represent the fairer sex in this year’s contest.
FACT: Barriers one and two in the Futurity have proven best, each producing four winners in the last 20 years.

Champion Sydney mare More Joyous and C’est Le Guerre jump from barriers one and two respectively.
FACT: The C.F Orr Stakes is a key lead in race for the Futurity, with eleven of the past 20 Futurity Stakes winners coming through it.

Horses that competed in the Orr which are contesting this year’s Futurity include Ortensia (finished 3rd) and Doubtful Jack (finished 5th).
